Ranita Terribilis Bird Reserve

The reserve is situated near the bank of the Timbiqui River, a short distance from the municipality of Timbiqui within the Cauca Department. It was created by ProAves foundation in order to protect species extinction and their habitats in Colombia through investigation, directed conservation actions and community approach, in partnership with institutions, communities, leaders and general citizens oriented towards the goal of human development in harmony with nature.

This protect was propose six years ago, but the foundation didn't have sufficient resource, for this reason the project couldn't done.

This entity, the first in the world created for the conservation of threatened species in this order, was established in December 2008, with the contribution of important institutions such as IUCN Netherlands, Dendrobatidae Nederland, Conservation Internacional and Netherlands Postcode Lottery,in order to preserve a piece of subtropical forest inhabited by golden frog, endemic and endangered Colombia.

Rama Terribilis Bird Reserve protects the animals, that, find on this forest area, such as e.g.. Cochranella rosada, Cochranella susatamai, Cochranella punctulata, Centrolene prosoblepon, Centrolene robledoi, Bolitoglosa lozanoi, Eleutherodactylus fallax, Eleutherodactylus penelopus, Eleutherodactylus raniformis, etc.
